Gary R. Smith, age 79, of Harrison, OH deceased on 14, June 2022 at his home. Mr. Smith was a member of the Churches of Christ, most recently at Whitewater Crossing Christian Church where he had served on the Finance Committee and as an Elder. He was a graduate of Waterford High School and Miami University with a B.S. in Education and Masters Degrees in Guidance, Counseling and Administration. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves in Cincinnati. Mr. Smith was enployed by Three Rivers Local Schools from 1965-1995 at Three Rivers Middle School where he served 30 years as a coach, teacher, counselor, and administrator during his career. Upon retirement from public education, he worked as a bookkeeper, payroll and treasurer for the Cincinnati World Piano Competition where he served on the Board of Directors. He also was employed by 1st Choice Security as a bookkeeper & payroll. He was an avid fan of Ohio State Football & Basketball and loved seeing them beat the school up north. Gary was the son of Alvin Ludwell and Helen (Miller) Smith of Watertown, OH. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Lee Smith (the late Frances) of Marietta, OH and a sister Laure Mae Biedel (the late Jack) of Lowell, OH. He is survived by his sister Donna Jean Tornes (the late Tony) of Marietta, OH, his wife Mary Lou (nee Horton) and his 2 sons: Charles (Kimberly) of Cary IL and Michael of West Chester, OH. Charles is a Pilot and Quality Control Manager with United Airlines. Michael is a Health Teacher and Football Coach with Edgewood City Schools. He also has 2 grandchildren: Elena and Allison of Cary, IL. Funeral Services for Mr. Smith will be conducted at Whitewater Crossing Christian Church, 5771 OH-128, Cleves, OH 45002 on Mon., June 20, 2022 with Pastor David Vaughan officiating. Friends may call from 9 AM until time of service at 11 AM. Interment will be at Glen Haven Cemetery in Harrison, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-The James Cancer Hospital, .
