Sylvia Cecelia Spring Obermeyer January 29, 1937-June 27, 2013 Resident of North Bend, OH Sylvia Obermeyer, age 76, passed away peacefully, succumbing to complications following back surgery. She is the daughter of the late Nicholas Spring, Sr. and the late Minnie Emerson Bates. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, John Obermeyer, Sr., son John (Dee) Obermeyer, Jr., daughter Kathy (John) Moore, and daughter Lois (Ed) Obermeyer-Kolb. She is also survived by her younger brothers Nicholas Spring, Jr. and Leland Bates, Jr., eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Sylvia grew up in Utica, NY until moving to Bellevue, KY and then the Pittsburg, PA area in Jr. High. She then moved to the Cincinnati, OH area as a senior in high school where she met her future husband, John. Sylvia loved to sing and participated in a number of singing opportunities throughout her life. From an early age, Sylvia's desire was to commit her life to helping others. She graduated from Mt. St. Joseph College as a Registered Nurse in 1958 and went to work as a Public Health Nurse for the City of Cincinnati. Sylvia taught Childbirth Education for many years and later worked as a staff nurse at the Three Rivers Convalescent Center from 1968-1974. Sylvia was a person of deep spirituality and was very active in the church in her younger years. In the early 1980's, Sylvia went back to school pursuing a Masters Degree in Religious Studies which was granted from the Athenaeum of Ohio in 1985. She also completed the 'Training in Process and Process Therapy' with Anne Wilson Schaef in 1986. She worked in retail sales in the Men's Dept. at Lazarus Department Store from 1986-1989 and returned to nursing as a staff nurse at the Women's Med Center from 1989-1995. Sylvia retired from work in 1995 at age 58 1/2. Sylvia loved to visit friends and family around the United States and traveled to many destinations including Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, California, Alaska and Hawaii. She had spent many summers and vacations in the Adirondack Mountains in New York. She loved the time she spent with her friends in the 'Do Nothing Club' and the Three Rivers Woman's Club. Sylvia will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. Visitation 10 AM, Memorial Service 11 AM, Friday, July 5th at Dennis George Funeral Home, Cleves, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Drop Inn Center or a charity of your choice.
