William F. Franz

COL William F. Franz, USAR Ret., 88, of Hidden Valley Lake, IN, formerly of Miami Township of Hamilton County, OH, died at Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg, IN on Oct. 12, 2008.
He had spent 35 years in active & reserve status with the US Army from which he retired a full Colonel. He was a WWII veteran. He had served as Commander of the 2075 USARF School, as the officer in charge of the Morrow Army Reserve Center & as the Staff Administrative Assistant for the US Army Reserve; he had received the meritorious Service Medal & the Army Achievement Medal. Memberships included Cinti. Chapter of the Assn. of US Army (Past Pres.), the Military Officers Assn. of America, the Military Order of St. Barbara, the Reserve Officers Assn. & Miller Stockum Post #485, American Legion (Past Commander); was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Parish in North Bend, OH; was for 24 years the Clerk of Miami Township of Hamilton County & was former Clerk of the Village of North Bend. He was instrumental in locating the Miami Township Branch of the Public Library of Cinti. & Hamilton County to it's current location in Cleves, OH.
He was the beloved husband of 63 years of Catherine W. Morling Franz, the devoted father of William H. Franz (Laurie), Gary S. Franz, Eric J. Franz (Melissa) & Julie C. Pieczonka (Oscar), the loving grandfather of William F., Hillary L. & Valeri L. Franz; Austin J. Franz & Brittney E. Cassell; Gwendolyn A., Megan E. & Gretchen M. Bohman, Todd Pieczonka (Joanna) & Marcy Stinson (Ed) & the dear brother of Dorothy Beckham (Don) & the late Paul Franz (Vera) & Rita Kraus (Mart). Also survived by 6 great grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
Visitation Thurs., Oct. 16, 4-8 PM at St. Joseph Church, 25 E. Harrison Ave., (PO Box 219) North Bend, OH 45052 where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Fri., Oct. 17 at 10 AM. Additional visitation Fri., 9-9:45 AM at church.
Interment with military honors in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cleves, OH.
Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Church.
